The National Scholarship Program (University of Toronto)
U of T's most prestigious entrance award for Canadian high school students, recognizing academic achievement, creative thinking and community leadership. Each Canadian high school may nominate one student a year; nominees who apply and are selected receive a scholarship covering tuition, incidental and residence fees for up to four years at U of T.

Who can apply
You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person; in your final year of Canadian secondary school, or in first-year CEGEP; planning to start university in the upcoming academic year (or planning to take a gap year first); and nominated by your school for the U of T National Book Award (each school may nominate one student per year). You must also apply for admission to at least one U of T undergraduate program in order to submit the scholarship application itself. Using generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT) to create any part of your application will disqualify you from award eligibility.
How to apply
Your school nominates you for the National Book Award (school nomination deadline October 9, 2026); you separately apply for admission to at least one U of T undergraduate program (deadline October 16, 2026); once nominated and you've applied, you receive a JOINid giving you access to the online National Scholarship Program application, due October 30, 2026 (being nominated is not enough: you are not automatically considered and must submit the application yourself); you also choose a referee at your school or in your community, whose confidential reference letter is due November 6, 2026. About 25 finalists are invited to virtual selection interviews in February 2027; only successful applicants are notified. About 15 finalists are designated National Scholars; payment is conditional on full-time registration in a first-entry undergraduate program in September.
